Troubleshooting Missing File Errors in Hitmix Bingo

When creating a playlist in Hitmix Bingo, it’s essential to keep all associated files in their original locations. If any files are moved, renamed, or deleted after saving the playlist, the software may return an error and prevent the playlist from loading correctly.

Common Error: "You've moved or deleted a file, please move it back"

This error occurs when Hitmix Bingo cannot locate a file that was originally included in the playlist. This might happen if:

A file or folder is moved to another location

A file or folder is renamed

A file or folder is deleted

Since the playlist relies on the exact file paths as they were when the playlist was saved, any change to those paths will break the link.

Warning Message When Saving Playlists

To help avoid this issue, all versions of Hitmix Bingo display the following warning when you create a playlist:

“You should not move, delete or rename any of these music files after you have saved the playlist!”

How Hitmix Bingo Helps You Identify Missing Files

Hitmix Bingo 10.5

If a file is missing, the software will display the full path to the first file it cannot find. For example:

/Users/nickburrett/Dropbox/Games/Girlbands vs Boybands/911 - Bodyshakin.mp4

To resolve this, simply go to the specified folder on your computer and ensure the file (in this case, 911 - Bodyshakin.mp4) is present in that exact location.

Hitmix Bingo 11.2

In this version, the software improves the user experience by providing a Browse button. When a file is missing, you'll be prompted to locate it manually. For example, if the software can't find 911 - Bodyshakin.mp4, just click Browse and navigate to where the file is now located on your system.

What to Do if You See a Missing File Error

Don’t panic – this is a common issue and is easy to resolve.

Read the error message carefully to see which file is missing.

Either, restore the file to its original location, or use the Browse option (in Hitmix Bingo 11.2+) to manually locate the file.

Best Practice

To avoid these errors entirely:

Do not move, rename, or delete any files or folders after saving your playlist.

Keep all media files in a consistent, organised location.

By following these steps, you’ll ensure your playlists continue to run smoothly without interruption.
